Shooting

He launched the orange
black-ringed planet as if he knew
it belonged in space; his feet left
the ground and his heart
trailed the ball like stardust
across a universe silent with fatigue
and ten seconds left
and gravity. A constellation
of sweat where his heart is missing.
So this is a star.

(i need a better title!....I do like how the first and last word go together though) :)

Matchgirl

Lamplight falls like snow on the face of great age
frosting her with moths like grace. She looks up
blinking like a star, a little
Sirius, and thinks of home.
The halo frozen in her retinas sanctifies
her step and the ghost of a firefly
brushes her cheek reminding her
that she is cold.
